The White beach in Santorini or Lefki Ammos (white sand), as called by the locals, is a beach of unique beauty formed under high white cliffs!
The sand on the beach is not white, as its name clearly indicates. It is a small cove with black pebbles and grey volcanic sand that contrasts with the white surroundings and this contrast is actually what makes it so special. The coast is shallow and the waters are crystal clear, very tempting for a refreshing swim!
Since it is very small, there are no amenities provided, apart from a few sunbeds and umbrellas, so if you are planning to visit White beach and stay longer there, make sure that you will take cold drinks and sunscreen with you or maybe you will get lucky and find a spot at the partial shade created by the cliffs.
The beach is located in the village of Akrotiri, on the southwest coast of Santorini, 14 kilometers away from Fira and very close to the spectacular Red beach.
“How can someone visit the White beach?”, is a frequently asked question, and the answer is that it is rather difficult to visit it on your own. It is not accessible by car, so if you feel adventurous, one way to visit the beach is on foot through a path that starts from the nearby Kambia beach.
Another way to visit the beach is through taxi boats that depart from the Red beach every day.
The most effortless and at the same time thrilling way of visiting the White beach is with our private boat rentals and skippered cruises that we offer. Our boats take you to the best spots of Santorini and you get to experience swimming in the beautiful beaches or just admiring the breathtaking scenery around, along with delicious food and free local drinks.
